The world of homeopathy can be overwhelming to a beginner and confusing even to an experienced practitioner. Thousands of ingredients are used effectively in homeopathic preparations, such as our natural and safe hormone boosters. Animal, vegetable, and mineral ingredients all come together to help you reach optimal health and balance your body's systems.
We introduced our ABCs of proBLENopathy series to help explain the ingredients, hormones, and other substances we refer to in the literature on our website. In this edition of The ABCs of ProBLEN, we're focusing on the letter M.
M is for Marshmallow Root!
Marshmallow Root:
Marshmallow root is derived from the plant Althaea officinalis and was, in fact, formerly used to make marshmallows and other sweet confections. It also has a long history of use as a natural remedy for its ability to moisten and soothe the mucous membranes. This made it useful for treating a variety of ailments, for which it has been used for over 2,000 years.
Gastrointestinal disorders and urinary tract infections can be treated with marshmallow root. It's also helpful for the respiratory system, thanks to its moisturizing and soothing properties. It helps relieve coughs and also soothes the chest and throat irritation caused by coughing.
Mate:
Mate is a very popular drink in many South American countries and is derived from the Yerba Mate plant (botanical name Ilex paraguariensis), which is made into a tea and traditionally served in a calabash or gourd. It was also imported into Syria and Lebanon, where it gained popularity. Yerba Mate is rich in polyphenols, organic chemicals with antioxidant properties. It also contains xanthines, which function as mild stimulants. These include mateine, which is similar to caffeine, as well as theobromine and theophylline.
The xanthines in Mate promote a feeling of well-being and vitality. It acts as an appetite suppressant and has been shown to lower the risk of diabetes. In people sensitive to caffeine, Mate can promote deeper sleep. It also helps reduce allergy symptoms and contains several essential elements for the body, including manganese, potassium, and magnesium.
Mercurius Corrosivus:
Mercurius corrosivus is mercuric chloride, a chemical compound of mercury and chlorine. HgCl2. It is technically a salt and is found in naturally occurring deposits in several countries, including the United States, Mexico, Yugoslavia, and Germany. It was formerly used as a treatment for syphilis before it was phased out in favor of other remedies. However, it's still useful in homeopathy today.
While normally a highly toxic chemical, the principles of homeopathy present a safe means of utilizing it to treat certain conditions. Mercurius corrosivus can be used to treat an inflamed sore throat that makes swallowing painful. It's also useful for relieving diarrhea and healing ulcers, especially ulcerative colitis. It has a degenerative effect on ulcers and helps reduce swelling. There has also been a success in using it to cure warts.
